WHAT ARE WE WORKING ON THIS WEEK?
HOMEWORK
Please enjoy reading and study your math facts however you choose! I believe that students should be enjoying time with their family and friends, doing extracurricular activities, and becoming a well-rounded kid! If a student doesn't finish their school work within a couple days of the expected due date, the student can choose to finish it during recess or at home. Project Based Learning (PBL)
I was part of the Rooster Springs Elementary 2nd grade team who wrote a successful grant to have the Buck Institute for Education come for Project Based Learning (PBL) training. Go to this PBL page to find out more! Thanks to the Dripping Springs Education Foundation and Rooster Springs PTA, 35 teachers participated in this professional development. It has spread throughout the district...get ready for some engaging, authentic learning!

FLEXIBLE SEATING
"The students we share our classrooms with don't know life without constant connectivity, wi-fi, and a global audience. Outside the windows of our classroom is a dynamic, fast-paced, and ever-changing world full of choices. How can we expect our students to solve problems and make choices independently if we constantly solve their problems and make their choices for them? Our classroom environments should be conducive to open collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. This simply cannot be done when kids are sitting in rows of desks all day. "
- Kayla Delzer's article on student-centered classroom designs
I am excited to continue using flexible seating and brain-based design this year. When you come into our classroom, you will choose a seat that will fit your needs. Students may move throughout the day depending on activities they choose. We'll be collaborating, communicating, creating, thinking critically, and solving problems! We'll be engaged and independent!
